About Graduation

The culmination of your academic experience results in the Graduation process. This includes the privilege and option of participating in commencement ceremonies. The responsibility for meeting the requirements for graduation rests primarily upon the student. These requirements are listed in detail within the Andrews University Bulletin.

Andrews University confers degrees three times a year, in May, August and December. The university also holds degree awards programs, or commencements, twice a year on the main campus of Andrews University: Spring (usually held in May), and Summer (usually held in August). Students who complete their degree requirements in December are eligible to have their degrees conferred in December and to participate in Spring Commencement services. PLEASE NOTE: There is no commencement ceremony for the December Conferral of Degrees.

Commencement and graduation ceremonies are intended to recognize degree candidates and to celebrate their achievements. A list of graduates who have completed all requirements and received degrees for each commencement will be made public through a posting on the Andrews University website.

Candidates must meet the ALL Applications and Final Clearances to graduate and to participate in Commencement Ceremonies.

Candidates who are graduating with two degrees from separate schools must choose which school/degree they would like to represent. Both degrees will be printed in the graduation program, but only that respective degree will be announced. Candidates may not march a second time in a graduation ceremony for any dual degrees.

Regalia is ordered by degree, not major. If you have any questions about the color of the hood associated with your degree, please click here. If you have any additional questions, please contact Oak Hill at the link above.

Change of Graduation Date

If you need to make a change in the information in your Graduation Application, you must complete a Graduation Application Revision form and submit it to ugrecords@chalakseir.com for undergraduate students or gradrecords@chalakseir.com for graduate students. 

Graduating in Absentia

A student graduating in absentia is a student who is not participating in graduation. The student should indicate their participation choice in the graduation application. Those who complete all degree requirements and choose to graduate in absentia forfeit their right to participate in a later graduation ceremony.

Procedures for Participation in Graduation Ceremonies

Applications and Final Clearances

UNDERGRADUATE

  • To apply for graduation, eligible undergraduate seniors must complete the online Graduation Application Form by the specified deadline.
  • Undergraduate students applying for December degree conferral or applying for graduation in May must complete the online graduation/marching application no later than the September date specified in the Academic Calendar. Undergraduate students applying for August graduation must submit the online graduation application by the specified date in May in the academic calendar.
  • Students who do not apply for graduation by the specified deadline will have to submit a completed Appeal to Apply Late for Graduation form with all the required signatures to ugrecords@chalakseir.com. They will also be charged a late graduation application fee.
  • Transcripts for transfer credit must reach the Academic Records Office a minimum of 15 days before graduation/degree conferral. If the transcripts have not arrived in the Academic Records Office by this deadline, the student's graduation may be delayed.
  • All Incompletes and Deferred Grades in classes needed to complete degree requirements must be changed to a satisfactory grade in the Academic Records Office a minimum of 15 days before graduation/degree conferral.
  • Students must receive financial clearance from the Student Financial Services Office to participate in graduation ceremonies or to receive a diploma.

GRADUATE

  • To apply for graduation, eligible graduate students must complete the online Graduation Application Form by the specified deadline.
  • Graduate students applying for December degree conferral must complete the online graduation application no later than the September date specified in the academic calendar. Students applying for graduation in May must submit their graduation applications no later than the January date specified in the published Academic Calendar, and students applying for August graduation must submit their graduation applications by the specified deadline in May.
